A 'Fairy' Surprise!
I was sitting on the bench in my Moon Garden the other day when I caught something out of the corner of my eye. I walked over to the big Maple tree in our backyard and to my suprise and delight I found that the fairies had moved in!They built a beautiful walled garden with plants and rocks and shells. It's magickal!I haven't met the fairies yet, but I suspect they're the 'keep to themselves' types. I'm just happy they decided to make my backyard their home and that I get to enjoy their gardening prowess!I hope you are lucky enough to find fairies in your backyard . . .

Moon Garden Bench
The bench for my Moon Garden came yesterday and not having any patience, and despite being sick with a bad cold and flu, I went ahead and assembled the bench myself. It came together fairly easily with a few bolts and screws and once I was done I took it out to the garden. It looks so pretty sitting underneath the arbor and despite the bad weather and my cold, I sat on it for a few minutes pondering how far the garden had come in such a short amount of time - relatively speaking of course since it was actually started last summer, as you know.Anyway, this project is complete, except for a few more plants that I purchased the other day to plant, but that will have to wait as it's been raining off and on for two days now and the soil is saturated. Oh well, I have nothing but time . . .

What Else? More Moon Garden
I hope you all can hang in there with me for a few more posts about my Moon Garden. Yes, it's almost complete and I'll be moving on . . . I have a surprise in the works, but more on that later.I ordered my 'Flora' garden statue last Wednesday and amazingly enough it was delivered on Friday. So with much excitement I dashed off to Home Depot for a stone to set 'Flora' upon, came home and added her to the garden. She's stunning . . .Brian has also caught the Moon Garden bug and just this morning he ordered me a proper English garden bench. I'm hoping for it by the end of the week and then this project will be complete (of course I'll be adding in more plants here and there, but for the most part it's a done deal).I'm really looking forward to sitting out in the evening on my new garden bench enjoying the fruits of my labour . . . come by and sit a spell with me if you're ever in my neighborhood . . .

More Moon Garden
I've spent the last two days painting the arbor in my Moon Garden and it's looking pretty awesome. The Bridal Wreath Spirea are blooming which makes the whole backyard really light up at night. With it being a Dark Moon the garden isn't being shown in it's glory, but that shouldn't be a problem in a few days when she'll be back happily shining down on my new Moon Garden.I ordered the 'Flora' statue last night and it should be here in about a week, so I'm really excited about that. I'm still looking for the 'perfect' bench which I think I've narrowed down to two or three, so it will be another few weeks before that's in place. After a slow start last year, I'm elated that the Moon Garden is almost complete. When it is I plan on dedicating it to the Moon Goddess and then sitting out and enjoying it in the evenings knowing that she is right there with me . . .

Moon Garden
After planning, laying out, lifting sod, building an arbor, laying stones, and turning dirt last summer, my moon garden sat dormant for the winter. We giggled all throughout winter because it looked like we had a grave in our backyard. I'm sure the neighbors were beginning to wonder about us!I've been working hard this week to get the garden ready for it's final staging. I pulled out all the weeds (no small undertaking), turned the soil and leveled it out (no more grave!) and was all set to paint the arbor today, but alas, it's raining. Hopefully the weather will cooperate either later on today or tomorrow so that the painting can commence.I did spend part of the afternoon yesterday planting some of the new plants for the garden. I bought two different white roses, artemesia, 'Alba' bleeding heart, variegated snake grass, hosta, astilbe, sedum, Goat's Beard, a new variety of tiger lily that is gorgeous (it has a deep burgandy face with white outer petals I couldn't resist), and a climbing hydrangea for the arbor. It's a good start to what I hope will be a lush white and silver 'Moon Garden'.This week we'll be laying in the pea gravel and I've got my eye on a gorgeous statue of the goddess 'Flora', the patroness of gardener's. The final touch will be a white bench to lay upon and daydream the day away . . .

In a Garden State of Mind . . .
Today is a beautiful sunny day and with most of the snow melting away earlier this week, I'm starting to dream of gardening. About the plot Brian dug up for me last fall and where he built a beautiful arbor. That plot will be transformed into a beautiful moon garden come spring. About the herb garden wheel I plan on planting ~ after Brian builds the wheel. About buying some new perennials to fill in some bare spots and moving other plants that would do better in other places. It's a beautiful dream and one I know will come into being . . . as soon as the ground thaws.
"From December to March there are, for many of us,
three gardens ~
the garden outdoors,
the garden of pots and bowls in the house,
and the garden of the mind's eye."
